About Cheryl Jones
Dr. Cheryl Jones RP, MTA, NMT-F, PhD has been teaching piano to students of all ages and levels for over 30 years. She has developed a music reading curriculum and games to support learning and the joy of music. Cheryl believes using a variety of teaching approaches, incorporating fun activities, and introducing a wide range of music, serves to help and motivate students to learn. She is passionate about teaching music, inspiring students to discover their musical abilities, building self-confidence, and encouraging a life-long love of music.
After 25 years of teaching piano full time, seeing the positive impact of music in various ways in the lives of her students, Cheryl returned to university and earned her Master in Music Therapy and her PhD in Music and Health Sciences. In addition to teaching piano, Cheryl also works as a neuro music therapist, using music-based interventions to address rehabilitation goals with individuals who have sustained an acquired brain injury. Cheryl is a part time instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University and is a regular invited guest lecturer at numerous universities and conferences. Her clinical work has been featured in 2 CBC documentaries. She has developed a music therapy model, Therapeutic Music Training, in which learning to play the piano is used to address cognitive rehabilitation goals for individuals who have sustained an acquired brain injury.
